THE COUNSELLING CORNER
A Little More About Me
Erin Burton- DiPC, MBACP
I am a Level 6 qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy- this means I have undergone training and work that meets the appropriate high standard expected of a counsellor.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I work in a fluid, organic way. I use Transactional Analysis as my core model, and expand outwards, incorporating a variety of approaches and techniques. I find this allows me to cultivate a way of working with you, in a way that works for you. The way I approach meeting you as an individual is built on a foundation of warmth, compassion, and non-judgement. Central to our work together is the notion that we are two equal human beings, working together to figure this out
Counselling in The Corner
Where do we begin?
To start our work, I carry out an assessment. The assessment comprises some questions about your life now, and why you've chosen to come to therapy. I'll also ask some questions about your past, and some about what you hope to gain from our time together. This establishes a picture of where you are at right now, and ensures we are both on the same page, before commencing counselling in earnest.
During the assessment session, you are welcome to ask any questions, express any expectations, or highlight any concerns you may have about starting the process of counselling. It's also an opportunity for you to experience being "in the room" with me, and judging for yourself whether you feel OK, and wish to begin work.
